After July and August races, Spain is the country topping both men and women’s general rankings of the Skyrunner® World Series 2011.
Spaniards were the two winners of the Dolomites SkyRace, held this past July 24 in Canazei (Italy). Luis Hernando and Mireia Mirò won a very hard course whose original track was abandoned due to snow.
Spanish Oihana Kortazar (in the photo) was the female ruler of the fourth round of the championship, the Course de Sierre Zinal (Switzerland) that celebrated, on August 14, an all-time record turn-out in 38 years of activity with 3,315 participants from 20 countries. Italy’s Marco De Gasperi was first among men.
A week later (August 20) Mario Macias and Kim Dobson from Colorado triumphed at the Pikes Peak Ascent (Colorado). But also after this fifth course, Spain’s Luis Hernando and Oihana Kortazar kept the top of the world ranking they had got in the previous race.
As a result, on September 18 Luis and Oihana will be the skyrunners to be defeated in the very last date of Sentiero delle Grigne (Italy), where all competitors will gain an extra 20% on their points and finally, the men’s and women’s world champions will be crowned.
